Small in stature but large in personality, the Yorkie has a wonderful personality with the zeal of any terrier. The breed has been known to have a diverse temperament, from loving and affectionate, to mischievous and stubborn. He will be very affectionate with his family, but will require early socialization to be good with kids and other pets. Having them around people and other animals when they are young will help curb any tendencies you may not like. Your Yorkie will make a good and alert watchdog because he is a barker, but will fail to intimidate someone.

The Yorkshire Terrier is a breed of medium intelligence, and should be relatively easy to train. Being a small breed, housebreaking them is somewhat tricky in the early stages. They are small, therefor have a small bladder, and will need to be taken out often to avoid accidents. The Yorkie can be a mouthy breed, so early training to curb this is a key.

The Yorkie is a suitable breed for someone who doesn’t have a huge home but still wants a canine companion. Because they are so small, they are suited for apartment living and do not need a lot of room to run. That being said, they will still love the occasional romp at the dog park. The Yorkshire Terrier is a very sensitive breed however, not caring for a lot of commotion or instability in their lives. Although they aren’t a large breed, they still don’t like extreme heat because of their long coat, and they don’t much care for the cold either. If you don’t have a lot of time to spend paying attention to a dog, this is not the breed for you. The Yorkie hates to be alone for long periods.

The Yorkie is suitable for most novice owners. Obedience training is however recommended.

This canine breed is generally healthy, but like all dogs has certain things to watch for. Hypoglycemia is always a concern with toy breeds, and the Yorkie is no exception to this rule. There are also some eye disorder to watch for in this breed.

This is your breed if you don’t like shedders. The Yorkie is heralded as a semi-hypoallergenic breed because of the breeds low shedding quality. It is recommended that you bath this breed and clip its nails once a week. If your Yorkshire Terrier has a long straight coat, it can tangle rather easily and you should be very careful not to cause him/her discomfort. It is also recommended that you brush this breeds teeth once a week.

This is a high energy breed. They will run and bounce off things and act possessed when they need to blow of steam, and you will love to see it. When they tire out, they will want to be loved and pampered like the little prince or princess they are.

8 to 9 inches in height and between 4 and 6 pounds in weight.
