The Vizsla makes a great family dog. They are mild mannered and great with children and other dogs. Early socialization with children is recommended so the Vizsla does not overwhelm smaller/younger children with their energy. Also, a key to good behavior in this breed is gentle but firm training, as they are a very intelligent and sensitive breed.
The Vizsla will adapt to a lot of things, but living in an apartment is not one of them. This breed needs room to move and exercise. They can handle some alone time, but prefer a lot of human interaction. They are sensitive dogs, so if you will have a life full of visitors coming and going to your home, make sure your Vizsla is used to that early in the game.
This breed can be a good fit for novice dog owners because of their sweet and gentle personalities. The Vizsla will react great to positive and rewarding training, which should go well because of their intelligence.
The Vizsla is a generally healthy breed. Some of the potential health issues that you may see with this breed are the skin condition known as Sebaceous adenitis, which is an inflammatory skin issue. The Vizsla Dog breed is also at risk for epilepsy. Genetic testing of the parents can help reduce the risk of these illnesses appearing in future generations.
heavy grooming is not a worry with this breed. They will require weekly brushing, but do not carry a strong “dog” odor. The smooth coat will benefit from being wiped with a dame cloth as well.
Pure energy, that is the Vizsla. These sporting dogs require an active lifestyle and will not be okay with being a couch potato. Keep in mind that an under-exercised Vizsla can become misbehaved, destructive, and downright disobedient.
The Vizsla should weigh between 40 and 65 pounds and be between 21 and 25 inches tall.
