German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by Rob Robinson

Very energetic breed research the breed before buying.I was ready to buy cinnamon and was told she was sold.Found her a month later for sale on another sit for double what they paid.Nee owner said the dog was to big for them obviously they did not do there homework on the breed.its a shame she would have a great life with us.

German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by Jody Schaaf

Our family has owned several German Shorthaired pointers over the years. They are a loyal dog with energy to spare. They're not a breed for anyone who doesn't have time to spend outdoors with them. They require a lot of exercise to keep them happy. I would highly recommend them for anyone who loves the outdoors.

German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by Kira

This breed has been in my family for years, and every dog we've owned has been a loving member of the family. Our most recent German Shorthaired Pointer dog is now 7, and she's still as active and loving as ever! If you want one of these dogs, it's definately a good idea to have a large back yard, or to live somewhere with a lot of open land. They're running dogs, so they need to get lots of exercise. My family has never used our dogs for hunting, in fact, we never really truly trained them if I remember correctly. They don't really need much training either! As a puppy, you have to do the traditional potty traing with them and all the basics. But otherwise, not much more I don't believe! We also tend to not groom... basicaly ever. As the description says, they do shed a lot, so try not to wear black too often if you get a white dog. These dogs tend to never misbehave, are very loyal, and are extreamly forgiving. I've had other breeds of dogs, but the German Shorthaired Pointer is my favorite.

German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by DShuster

I bought 2 excellent german shorthaired pointers from a Lancaster (Amish) breeder (Hammertown Kennels) and I can say without a doubt that they were the 2 best hunting shorthairs I owned out of all 4 I have had in my lifetime (the other 2 were not from the Amish). I deal with Hammertown Kennels. I would highly recommend Sylvan Zook from Hammertown. He is honest and friendly and gave me vet records and health guarantees and both puppies passed Vet checks with absolutely no problems.. He called to follow up on the puppies and keeps in touch with his customers. And yes they may have been in a barn, on hay or straw bedding.. its no big deal.. but might be a problem for city folks not used to the farm! When it comes to hunting shorthairs I swear by Amish barn dogs any day of the week! In the past I always dealt directly with Mr. Zook so I have not dealt with Greenfield, but I can vouch for the Amish dogs I got. Hammertown has some GSP pups listed here now. GSPs are great dogs, but need to run and hunt like they are born and bred to do!!

German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by Mike

Have had a GSP/Chocolate Lab mix for about 6 years. Found him as a 6 week old rescue pup in a shelter. Have owned dogs all my life, mostly lab & lab mixs. This dog is the best I have ever had. He is super smart, very loyal, sweet, eager to please and fun loving. At only 65 pounds he seems like a small dog compared to my 90-110 pound labs. Had some chewing issues when a pup but no issues since. Awesome dog !!!

GSP\'s are great dogs, but require a lot of exercise and mental stimulation or can develop unwanted behaviors. Ranked in the top 20 of intelligent dogs, with persistence in training they can be well trained family dogs or wonderful hunting companions.

GSPs are awesome! I have had 3 in my lifetime so far! They are loveable & like to snuggle! They are great with kids! They don\'t have many health issues & they tend to live long lives. All of mine have lived passed 14 yrs. They r extremely active so they need a family that will take them for a lot if walks, hikes or just a lot of fetching!

German Shorthaired Pointer Breed Review by Jessica

German shorthaired pointers are my absolute favorite breed. We have a 2 year old GSP and he is such an angel! So loyal, loving and friendly. He will snuggle with anyone that comes and sits on the couch. Great family dog and loves the outdoors. Would recommend to anyone who wants a loyal companion who will be able to provide a moderate amount of exercise/has a big yard for running.

The German Shorthaired Pointer is one of the most versatile breeds of working dogs. Developed in 19th century Germany as game hunters, they have also been used over the years for such tasks as pulling sleds and as bomb detector and trackers. This breed is believed to be developed from a combination of Old Spanish Pointer, English Pointer, Dalmatian, Weimaraner, Tracking Hound, and German Bird Dog. They are named for the pose that they take when sensing game. This pup has a water resistant coat that comes in a variety of colors, with a matching nose. Webbed feet help them to move in water which makes them great for water retrieval. The German Shorthaired Pointer is a high energy pup and needs lots of exercise. They prefer leadership and need structure. This dog loves people, but be cautious with small children because of their playfulness and jumping. The German Shorthaired Pointer was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930.
