Lovable, sweet, terrific pet. Does not shed but does require regular grooming. Very affectionate and loyal. Generally good with childern but does not like loud noises or chaotic environment. Overall an excellent breed.

I have an 7 yr old Dorkie. He is very smart, learns well, interacts with people and other dogs very well, acts like a playmate for young kids that visit, easy to house break, very affectionate like a Dachshund and very prankster-ish like a Yorkie. He has one of the unique coats, for his breed, in a Dapple pattern(think German Shepard colors) , his tail curls slightly and his ears are floppy as a Dachshund, just slightly shorter-he can put them both up , both down or one up and one down. The only slight downside is that he is a shedder, as in we live in a State that is in constant heat, so he is constantly shedding. His coat is a slick, flat short hair (not smooth), he does not require haircuts, only de-shedding rituals of combing his undercoat about every other day, He also enjoys long walks, up to 3 miles per walk- Yes, still has energy at age 7 yrs. I got him as a 3 month old Puppy and the last 7+ years with him have flown by.

dorkies are the most playful puppies ever! Just make sure to have them in a fenced area.(just in case they run away; they\'re very small) also, train them when they are about 12 weeks or so.
