Three Reasons for a Yorkie

When considering what breed of dog is for you, you mustn’t underestimate the toy dog breeds. As little, and as adorable, as they are, they are still brilliant companions who are intelligent, obedient, and immensely enjoyable to have around. In fact, many argue that toy dogs, as a “lap dog” developed to primarily be in social contact with human beings, are the ideal household pet. Unlike cats they aren’t distant, and unlike bigger dogs their instincts don’t bend towards aggression or solitary behavior. Among all of these breeds, however, none stand out quite like the Yorkshire Terrier. Here are just a few reasons that a Yorkshire Terrier is for you:

1. The Perfect Companion at Home

First of all, the size of the Yorkie shouldn’t be seen as a disadvantage, as some would have it, but rather as a serious advantage over other, larger breeds. Owing to the Yorkie’s size, they can easily fit into a small or crowded home or in an urban apartment environment. They’re ideal for city-living, in fact, as it would be cruel to have a larger dog there.

2. Intelligence

The Yorkie is very intelligent, as well as being a curious breed. If you want a slow-paced, sleeps-all-the-time type of dog, then you can find that among other breeds, but the Yorkie is constantly exploring its world, investigating new smells and sights and sounds, and you should be prepared for that! You’ll always have your hands full, but on the other hand, you’ll always have a lively companion in your Yorkie.

3. Easy to Teach

While socializing and training a dog can always prove somewhat challenging, some breeds are easier to train than others. The Yorkie is definitely one of those easy-to-train dogs, as they are quite intelligent, and so can pick up on your training quite quickly. Though difficult to housebreak, the Yorkie will hold onto its training for some time to come!
