Talkin’ About Momo Monday
Corgis have taken the Internet by storm. They are all over reddit, Facebook, and have even become the logo for the site Buzzfeed. These pups are full of life and adore all the attention they have been getting. Their popularity comes from their personality, brains, and their physical attributes – specifically, their booties.
What does Momo mean?
While momo has negative connotations in the Western world in Japan, where the Internet phenomena originated, momo actually means peach. When corgis became popular in countries like Japan, Korea, and China Japanese owners quickly realized their backside resembled a peach. Since then corgi owners around the world have been taking pictures, videos, and gifs of their corgis “momo” every Monday. It serves as the perfect Monday pick-me-up for dog lovers. Since the sensation started it has created a several Facebook pages, websites, blogs, and many pieces of artwork showing off the plump posteriors of these happy little stumpers.
Where to go
If you want to begin following Momo Monday you can do so in several ways. On basically any social media site you can simply search and follow Momo Monday to get your weekly dose of bunny booty. Or you can look up the hashtag #momomonday. Possibly where it is most popular is on Instagram but it is all over the Internet and can often be seen on the website OCD: Obsessive Corgi Disorder.
How to get involved
If you are a lucky corgi owner and your pup is of course comfortable on camera start snapping away. Thousands of people all over the world flock to the hashtag every Monday to see new momos as they are called. Many owners will often sneak a photo or quick video while walking their pooch or when they are down for a midday nap.
You don’t necessarily need a corgi to have your dog or cat become a famous momo contributor. Many pet owners have jumped on the bandwagon and have begun sharing their pet’s momo if you can believe it. Though it may be a strange phenomenon we believe it is here to stay.
