Springtime Activities For Doggie Days!
Doggie Days: Spring Activities and Exercise
Now that the birds are singing and the grass actually looks green it may be time to stretch your legs and have some fun outside. If you have a dog, they may be itching even more than you are to get outside (there is a lot of new smells y’know).
So here are a few ideas for what you and your four-legged friend can do now that the snow has melted.
Give Your Dog A Spring Cleaning
Throughout the winter dogs can accumulate a lot of hair, dirt, and heaven-knows-what-else in their fur. If your dog is comfortable around water you may want to consider a bubble bath outside. Depending on the size of your dog you will want to get a tub (I usually use a large tin one from a home repair store) and fill it with lukewarm, soapy water (be sure to buy dog shampoo or Mane and Tail from the grocery store. These are safe for pets). Then you will want to put on clothes you won’t miss if they go in the trash because they will be ruined. Once you’re ready just have fun with your dog. You’ll love the way they smell and they’ll love the attention.
Pet Meet-Up
All over the U.S. people have been organizing pet meet-ups at pet friendly parks, beaches, and businesses so they can make two and four legged friends. Meet-ups can be great for your dog to learn about socialization, manners, and sharing (toys, food, treats, etc). Be sure your dog is ok with other animals beforehand though. Introduce them to a gentle and patient dog beforehand; otherwise you could be dragging your dog away from a fight.
Hit The Trails
Your furry friend loves to spend time with you and time outside. The best way to do so is by exploring new places to hike together. This can be great so you both can get exercise after such a long winter and get some fresh air. Before you head out, however, you will want to put bug spray on both you and your dog. Use a sensitive skin repellant or all natural spray so you do not irritate your dog’s skin. Nothing is worse than being eaten alive by mosquitoes and having a skin rash.
Hopefully you’re ready to strap on your boots (maybe a few plastic bags for your pooch) and run head first into spring. Your dog will love it and so will you!
