The Silky Terrier dog is a small breed with a lot to offer.  He does not stand far off the ground at an average of ten inches from the shoulder, but gets high marks in agility, adaptability and aptitude. The average weight is only about ten pounds too, adding to and not detracting from, its sprightliness. The Silky Terrier’s lighter, longer frame allow to enjoy some spry times showing off their intelligence, speed and courage.

Grooming is great for your pet’s health and for bonding with your pet. Owning a Silky Terrier dog breed is wonderfully suited for someone who can groom him at least once daily. The natural beauty of these gorgeous dog’s coats is near impossible to resist brushing anyway, but to keep it at its optimal health, frequent brushing helps remove any dirt, massage the skin and evenly distribute oil. Silky Terriers love attention and equally love returning affection. Brushing time can be bonding time. While their coats don’t actually shed much, if not trimmed and maintained somewhat short, they can mat easily.

Silky Terriers love to bond and one-on-one time. They can be like any toddler getting use to new rules or family members, which is to say they can be a little stubborn. Establishing a firm and steady early relationship with your Silky Terrier will be important. The individualized time spent with you brushing, grooming and other positive reinforcements, will help. Silky Terriers want to perform and please.

They want attention and encouraging feedback. The grooming he’ll need will start as early as his need for training – what a wonderful bonding opportunity. With aptitude, agility, and affection, this new family member is also intermittently active.  Grooming will help cool, calm and continue that bond too. While moderately active, the Silky Terrier is happy to perform for you anywhere and its small physique allows it to get decent exercise in even small spaces.

However, don’t think this little dog breed doesn’t come with an abundance of stamina. Just be prepared for a resting parting to eager for your attention when you’re done.
