Monday April 25, 2015 is World Veterinary Day

Another dogIt is a day many pups dread but World Veterinary Day is an important day for you and your pooch. It reminds you of the importance of your dog’s health and can help you become a better caregiver for your pet. Here are a few things you can do on World Veterinary Day

Say thank you

Your veterinarian deals with millions of issues, sicknesses, and scared pups everyday. While we know you are the apple of your dog’s eye, your vet makes sure everything is in working order so you two can do more important stuff like play. So be sure to show your vet some appreciation because without him or her, your pup could be in serious trouble. To say thanks you can always get them a gift card at the local coffee shop. I like to do this because it gives them a chance to gear up for the day or wind down after a long shift. In the card you can always attach a sweet picture of your pooch. If you want something a little more personal you can make a gift. I like to offer handmade lotion or soap for cracked, dry hands or homemade tea for when they can take a break.

Make an appointment

I know it won’t be fun and your pet will constantly give you the (for lack of a better phrase) puppy dog eyes but you need to give them regular check ups so they stay healthy and ready to play. You can make the trip a little bit easier by bringing their favorite toy, a blanket, fresh water, and of course, treats. This and your presence will make them feel a little more at ease. Afterward if they are stress or it was an intense visit (with shots or surgery) you should take them home and tuck them in. They will need some rest after such a hard day.

Say thank you (again)

This time say thank you to your furry friend. If it wasn’t an invasive visit take them out for fetch or a walk after your vet visit. Or if you need a pick-me-up get them one as well. You can stop by any Starbucks and many other coffee shops for a coffee and a puppicino (an espresso cup full of whipped cream). They will be thrilled by this new, exotic treat and you will be able to breathe easy knowing your best friend has a clean bit of health.
