The Goldendoodle: Smart, Fun, and Hypoallergenic

Smart, Fun, and Hypoallergenic

It can sometimes be difficult for a person to understand the idea that a dog has a purpose that has literally been bred into them, yet that is precisely the case with many purebreds. Over the past several centuries, these purebred dogs have been shaped towards a purpose, towards having a set of behaviors, an appearance, and inclinations and behaviors that make them ideal for a specific role in society. For some that is a service role; for others, that of the family dog; for others, sport and show. Yet the limited gene pool for this breeding has led to a wide variety of problems as well as a lack of options for breeding in desirable traits. Thus were born the hybrid breeds, such as the Goldendoodle!

The Origins of the Hypoallergenic Breed

The Goldendoodle is a portmanteau of the names of its two parent breeds: the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Both of these breeds are renowned for their intelligence, their loyalty, their trainability, and their sociability within the family unit. It made sense, then, to breed them together to create a breed that was even more along these lines. The result is a breed that is considered to be the ideal family companion dog, one that is inoffensive to those with canine allergies (as one can never know when someone with these allergies is in one’s family or merely being entertained as a guest in one’s house).

There for You

The Goldendoodle often shares the Golden Retriever’s even, if happy-go-lucky and ever-obedient, temperament, which is a great selling point for the breed; who doesn’t love a Golden Retriever’s reasonably-energetic personality? Yet as children age and new family members are brought into your home, the potential for pet allergies increases; this can make it difficult to have your friend and companion, your dog, in your home, leading to illness, friction, and in all likelihood, the necessity of giving your dog a new home.

By creating a hypoallergenic breed, you have a dog who will not trigger allergies nearly as often, allowing you to avoid all the aforementioned unpleasantness! This, in the end, makes the Goldendoodle a great bet as far as family pets are concerned: you know the Goldendoodle will be there for you!
