The Boxer Dog

Breed Description: The Boxer is a versatile breed. While they are loving, lively companions and family dogs, they also can make an excellent watch dog because of their alert and curious nature. The name “Boxer” is supposedly derived from the breeds tendency to stand on it’s hind legs and “box” with its front paws while playing with other dogs.

Average Size: Ranges from 21-31 inches tall and 55-110 pounds depending on gender.
Color(s): Fawn, brindled, white, or even reverse brindled with or without white markings.
Coat Type: Boxers have a short, smooth coat that is very soft to the touch.
Grooming: The Boxer’s smooth and short coat requires little grooming and sheds very little. Daily brushing is still recommended.
Activity Level: These are very active Dogs.
Temperament: The Boxer is a bright, playful, and energetic breed that is great with children. The Boxer by nature is not an aggressive breed, but because of their physical prowess, they make a formidable family guardian.
Common Ailments: Cancers, Hip Dysplasia, some heart related issues.
Life Expectancy: 9-10 years
Fact: According to the AKC, Boxers are the 6th most popular dog in the United States.
