Choosing the Bernedoodle

We know all about the purebred breeds of old, but what amount the breeds of today? These days our understanding of pedigree and breeding is so in-depth that we no longer create entirely new breeds, but rather seek the take two breeds whose strengths and weaknesses balance each other out in such a way that we get the best of both worlds. In the case of the Bernedoodle, that is the combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Could this be the next dog to make your household its home?

Energy and Intelligence

The Bernedoodle enjoys an athletic lifestyle with plenty of energy, allowing it to be the entertaining, fun, and playful family pet that man families are looking for. The breed has a reputation for its friendly and loyal behavior, and is a great companion to you and your children. In fact, they bear a striking resemblance to the Goldendoodle in many of their behaviors, as the breed is also know for many of these traits, but the Bernese Mountain Dog in in them seems to give them a more relaxed attitude towards life.

Make no mistake, however – the Bernedoodle loves life and the people in its life! They require quite a bit of social interaction, and their intelligence means that if you do not engage them correctly they can easily become quite bored, leading them to misbehave and do things that, well, you wouldn’t expect of such a smart dog!

Preparing for Your Bernedoodle

The Bernedoodle is generally the same size as a Goldendoodle, ranging from 20 to 50 pounds, all depending on the breeding and pedigree of the dog, so your household should be of an ideal size to house such a dog. Do keep in mind that a dog’s breeding and past is very important, and you should always look in to how a dog came to be; with the increased popularity of the Bernedoodle, demand has led to some organizations breeding Bernedoodles in an irresponsible manner. Make sure you ask your breeder for proof of health testing before you bring your puppy home, or you may be in store for a real tragedy!
