Cavachon Puppies

There are few things cuter on the planet thanĀ a Cavachon puppy. A cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Bichon Frise, the Cavachon stays small, fluffy with an endearing expression. Because of their cuteness, owners may spoil them or let them get away with bad habits like jumping up on people or excessive barking.

Do not let your Cavachon be top dog in your home. Never hit your Cavachon. A sharp verbal reprimand is enough to let the puppy know that you are displeased. Each Cavachon learns at its own pace. Since they are dogs that like to please people, they are highly trainable. Use positive reinforcement with praise, treats or offering a toy for good behavior.

Housebreaking

Small dogs can be difficult to housebreak for the sole reason is that itā€™s hard for the owners to tell when the dogs are squatting. Squatting is more obvious in a larger dog. Although some Cavachons have learned to use a litter box or ā€œpee padsā€ itā€™s best to have your puppy go outside. Whenever you see the puppy walking in circles and sniffing the floor, take him outside to his designated toilet area.

Small puppies like Cavachons have small bladders. Young puppies need to go out about every two hours. They will not be able to make it through the night without a potty break until they are at least six months old. Making sure your Cavachon is well groomed can prevent stool caught on the fur to get into the home.

Grooming

The big issue with Cavachons is grooming. If you do not have time to brush your dog, learn how to trim your dog use pet clippers, then do not get this dog. The coat grows quickly. They need trimming at least once a month. If the coat is not trimmed, it soon becomes a tangled mess. Puppies do not keep themselves clean. Theyā€™re like small children. You have to work to keep them clean.

According to Animal Planet, first-generation Cavachons shed less than multi-generational Cavachons. Multi-generational Cavachons have Cavachons for parents. First-generation Cavachon has one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent and one Bichon Frise parent. Temperament wise they are the same.
