How Cane Corsos Look

Cane Corsos are large dogs reminiscent of the mastiff. It has a powerfully built, muscular body; large at the shoulders, smaller in the waist and hips. They can weigh up to 110 pounds; adults standing at 28 inches, males being slightly taller than females. The ears are fairly large but are sometime cut at an angle for style and distinction. The Cane Corso comes in many colors of which are reflected in its eyes. Its defining characteristics are its large head and loose lower lip. The overall outlook of this dog is one of power and athleticism.

History

This Italian breed of dog was used in the military in Montopoli di Sabina near Rome, in 1137. For service during wars and assistance with herding livestock, the Cane Corso has stood the test of times in eras when dogs were only counted valuable for what they did. Survival depended solely on good service and usefulness; so this pure-bred race of dog managed to maintain itself exclusively for economic reasons alone. The cane corso we have today rigidly adheres in form and characteristics to its forebears, keeping in tune with the past – a constant reminder of what these dogs achieved and what they stood for.

Temperament

Despite its no nonsense look, the Cane Corso is gentle and eager to please. If you want to train them, be sure to purchase it at the puppy stage as they are pliable. These dogs grow to form close attachments to their owners and are very aloof with strangers. For this reason, it is advisable to take them for walks and familiarize them with other humans as soon as possible. This dog is one of the best when it comes to fun and friendliness. They are exceptional indoor dogs and good with children as they have an even disposition, however, they are also excellent guard dogs and will fiercely protect their home and owner.

Cane corso puppies are adorable and cuddly with their ears cut short, or left long (I think long is best). This dog will make an interesting and lively asset to your home!
