American Eskimo Puppies
If you are looking for a beautiful, all white dog who will love, protect and play with you as well as your children if you have any, an American Eskimo puppy may be exactly what you need. They are extremely intelligent and easy to train. They love their family dearly and are always on alert to keep their loved ones from harm.
Characteristics of American Eskimo puppies
American Eskimo puppies are known for their excellent temperament. They have an all-white or biscuit color coat with dark brown eyes. You can choose a toy that ranges from nine to 12 inches high, a miniature or standard that will grow to approximately 19 inches in height.
Despite their name, they are not from Alaska, but actually originated in Germany and are a member of the Spitz family of dogs. They are not only extremely loyal, they also get along extremely well with other family pets.
How to care for your American Eskimo puppies
A well-cared for American Eskimo has a life span of 16 or more years. Although considered a healthy breed, there is a rare genetic tendency for hip and patella problems as well as allergies and retina problems.
-
Have our veterinarian check your pet for any genetic problems and instruct you on how to properly treat them if necessary.
-
Provide plenty of intellectual stimulation. This is a very smart breed that learns things quickly. They love being with their human family and may suffer anxiety if left alone for long periods of time.
-
Be sure they get plenty of exercise. They adapt well to apartment living as long as they are taken for walks and get plenty of exercise.
-
Watch their eyes for “tear stains” which are brown spots under the eyes of American Eskimo puppies. Actually, many dogs have this problem but it is more apparent in this breed due to its white fur. The stains develop when the tear fluids accumulate in the eye and drip over the bottom eyelid. The eyes should be cleaned every morning to prevent staining. Although some products are sold that claim to be “tear stain removers,” the reality is that once the fur is stained, it is almost impossible to restore the white color.
