Airedoodle Puppies

Airedoodle: A hybrid-mix of purebred Standard Poodle and purebred Airedale Terrier.

This breed is one of dozens of designer breeds identified by the International Designer Canine Registry. Many breeders spend a great deal of money and time researching parental ancestry and health records before selecting their specialty breed. Registration with the IDCR is one way to show other breeders and people looking for a family pet they take their business seriously.

Characteristics

While individual puppies have slight variations in temperament and mood, most will be curious, energetic and affectionate.

The coat is thick, and either tightly curled or moderately wavy.

Many owners also indicate their puppies have a strong will and exhibit a resistance to training. In essence, they have a mind of their own. Which can be quite fun, even though it could be frustrating at times — such as during paper training or housebreaking periods.

Exercising and Other Health Consideration

Airedoodles need regular exercise and stimulation. Daily walks help keep the muscles in tone and respond to the puppies curious nature. Although the adult dogs are fairly small (average height is less than two feet) some breeders do not recommend apartment living. This Airedale terrier-poodle mix needs space to run and play and benefit from a mid-sized back yard for daily exploring.

The environment should have entertaining toys and stimulating things to capture his interest. If puppies are not challenged enough, they can develop habits of excessive barking and chewing — which are hard to break.

Grooming

Daily brushing is recommended to reduce matting and keep the coat shiny and healthy. Some grooming specialists recommend plucking twice a year to keep shedding to a minimum. Owners often wash the face after eating to prevent food build up in the beard, which can result in odors and matting. Expect mild to moderate shedding, even with daily brushing.

Training

Although your puppy may resist training, he will respond to a firm, loving and consistent program. Owners should keep training sessions short. Establishing yourself as dominant early will make training easier for most puppies.

Life Expectancy

Airedoodles have an average life expectancy of approximately 12 years. With proper nutrition, daily exercise, an interesting environment and a loving family, they will life a full, happy life.
