These days we are spoiled for our choice of breeds when it comes to selecting a canine companion. You can choose just about any kind of dog you want, so long as you are willing to take the time to care for them, rear them, train them, and look after them in the years to come. A Hypoallergenic Breed

First and foremost, if you are someone who experiences canine allergies, then this dog must be high on your list of breeds-to-consider if you still wish to own a dog. The Bichon Frise’s coat is dense and curly, and it does not shed; instead, its hair simply never stops growing, much like human hair. The downside of this is that the breed requires regular grooming, lest its hair get out of control, dirty, matted, and generally unhealthy both for you and for the dog. This means shaving, cutting, clipping, washing, etc., usually every 6-8 weeks. That can get expensive if you have it professionally done, so be ready for that! Yet if you feel you can afford it, the hypoallergenic quality of Bichon Frises is invaluable.

Why Else a Bichon Frise?

As if that wasn’t enough, the Bichon Frise is also remarkably intelligent, easy to train, and friendly. They are great with kids, they love to be handled and snuggled, and they are energetic and playful. Their relatively small size makes them great lap dogs, but they are not so small and fragile that they cannot rough-house a bit, play, run, and generally do all the things we often expect dogs to do. They are, in many ways, the perfect household pet, and if you are looking for a dog to complete your family, then it would be difficult to do better than a Bichon Frise.
