5 Health Tips For Your Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retrievers have been known for a long time to be great family dogs. Most of them tend to be extremely friendly and somewhat calm, yet at the same time very outgoing. And while they do make for a great dog for the family, they need care and attention just as any pet does. If you’re looking for information related to Labrador Retrievers, make sure you pay close attention to the five health tips mentioned below.

Tip #1: Your Labrador Retriever is going to eat a lot

These types of dogs tend to have very large appetites. In fact, it’s not uncommon for them to eat all throughout the day. You’ll need to set out food at least once to twice a day. Don’t be surprised if you see your dog come to his or her bowl and eat for a few minutes and then wonder off to do something else, only to return a bit later and eat a little more.

Tip #2: Introduce with care

Labrador Retrievers are somewhat territorial. When introducing your dog to a new person, make sure to do so with care. People who are loud will need to quiet their voices while first being introduced.

Tip #3: Show your Labrador lots of love

Sure, Labrador Retrievers give lots of love, but they like to receive it as well. The overall health of your dog greatly depends on how much attention he or she receives. Although you may have a busy life, make sure you try to spend at least 10 to 30 minutes a day playing with your Labrador Retriever.

Tip #4: Take your Labrador to the vet on a regular basis

Just the same as you need to visit your family doctor on a regular basis, your Labrador Retriever needs to visit the vet regularly too. An annual checkup is always good as well as a quick visit any time you suspect something may be wrong.

Tip #5: Don’t cage up your dog

A nice large area for your Labrador to roam around in while you’re at work is great. Even if you do have to keep him or her in a cage, make sure it’s big enough to walk around in. Also, it’s a good idea to throw in a couple toys for your dog to play with while you’re gone.
