For most of us our pets are so much more than a companion. Our furry friends are almost like our children. So when we have a chance to travel leaving them behind is not a choice we favor and often a last resort.  When planning for your next trip consider going pet friendly.

• The Beach -The sand, the sun, and the beautiful calming waters. Your small dog could easily travel along with you on a weekend trip or longer vacation to the beach.  Travel in the car is easy with a small dog. And most hotels, resorts and motels along the coasts are pet friendly. Just make sure you are staying near a pet friendly beach as well. You and your pup will be able to swim, fetch, fly a kite and snuggle up in the sand.

• Camping -What better place to take your pal than an overnight adventure out enjoying mother nature? You can hike, play in a stream, and make new friends as there are likely to be many families out with their dogs as well. Small dogs can even share your sleeping bag at night. Just be sure to keep a watchful eye on them near the water and also near the fire.

• National Parks –Most national parks are beginning to ride the pet friendly wave. You and your small dog can now explore the greatest wilderness the US has to offer together. Remember to keep your dog leashed as most of the national parks don’t want anyone wandering off trail, man or canine. And it’s important not to forget that smaller dogs need plenty of shade, water and snacks on your long excursions in the wilderness.
