How to take your Dog’s Picture
Welcome back to the Greenfield Puppies Dog Blog. One of the most enjoyable, yet most challenging things is trying to get good photos of your pet. I own 2 dogs and a cat currently, and they all react differently when I try to take a photo of them. My large dog (100 lbs.) is afraid of the camera, my small dog barks at me, and my cat treats me like she is an intoxicated movie star and I am the Paparazzi. But funny photos of animals are such cool keepsakes, and since to some of us animals are family, a necessary part of our portfolio. Fact is this is an imperfect science, but there are certain little tricks you can use to get some good photos of your dog. I hope these help you capture some of the wonderful and priceless moments that only your furry friends can provide!
- The old “Treat Trick”: Ok , this sounds easy enough, but it can be challenging. If your dog has the tendency to be a “lunger” when you show him a treat, chill him out with a few small treats to calm him down. Most dogs will follow the treat with their eyes, so simply hold it above the camera, and you should get a solid shot every time!
- Want to get some funny photos? Well normally I would be telling you how to stop your dog from doing these things, but what fun is that? Set up situations that your dog can’t resist. I mean things like a dirty sock, an open bag of dog food, or a missing trash can lid. These are hilarious photo ops, just make sure your pooch doesn’t get hurt in the process.
- The expression “say cheese” doesn’t work on Rover, so here is a easy way to get them to smile for the camera. Get them running around a bit, when a dog pants, it resembles a smile. Just be prepared for the excessive water drinking and upcoming drool that will be coming your way!
- If you just want nice relaxed pictures, try some 15 minutes after a walk or play session, this is the best time to take calm photos, as the dog will be in a very calm state.
