The Huskimo, a cross between the American Eskimo and Siberian Husky breeds, is considered a designer breed recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), the Designer Registry of America (DRA), and the International Designer Canine Registry (IDCR).  This beautiful medium-sized cross can be black, red, white, grey or yellow and  is double-coated, having a dense undercoat and thicker, more coarse guard hairs in the outer coat.  Characteristics can vary widely among pups within a litter who will inherit the traits of either or both breeds so it is important to learn as much as you can about both before you adopt your Huskimo.

Because the Siberian is genetically descended from the Spitz and the American Eskimo is a Spitz breed, the Huskimo will have some traits common to both breeds.  You can expect an expressive, friendly, and social pup that is extremely smart, energetic, fairly easy to train, and has a strong pack instinct. If you make him part of your pack, he is sure to be a loyal family member.

The Huskimo is highly trainable, and puppy training is strongly recommended. The Huskimo will do well with a strong leader as an owner. They can be mischievous due to their high energy level, but plenty of activity and training stimulation will help prevent problem behaviors from developing.

Very intelligent, the Huskimo will thrive in an environment where it is engaged and part of the activity.  Social and affectionate, the Huskimo may not be the best guard dog but will do well with other pets and children.

Because this breed is fairly new historically, there are no known genetic issues. Crossbreeds tend to be healthier genetically.  Both breeds in the cross have very few genetic health concerns, but eye defects, seizures, patellar luxation or hip dysplasia are possible.

The Huskimo’s longer, double-coat will stay nice with bi-weekly brushing and bathing on a monthly basis.  It may blow it’s coat twice a year as is common in the Siberian and should be brushed daily during that time.

This breed will be active and energetic requiring daily exercise including long walks, runs, training, running and playing.  These dogs love interactive affection, and the more active it is, the better they like it!  Try to locate toys made of jute, fire hose or extremely thick rubber to help them last for more than a week while puppies are teething.

Please research and understand the traits of both breeds in the cross before purchasing one of our Huskimo Puppies for Sale below.
