The Akita has a very soft and dense undercoat, however their outer coat is straight and coarse.

This breed is very loyal and courageous.  They make excellent watchdogs.

Akitas are very protective of the children in their family but could be leery with other children.

They need brushed daily.  They will lose their coat twice a year.

They need daily exercise and obedience training would be good for them.

They need a moderate amount of activity.
