Why a Toy Poodle?
Why a Toy Poodle?
For those who suffer from canine allergies, there is a single directive that is more important than any other when searching for a dog: are they hypoallergenic? Once upon a time, this was hard, if not impossible, to find, but thanks to the miracle of modern science and the time-tested (and ever-improving!) breeding methods of today’s canine breeders, you can easily find a hypoallergenic dog. In fact, with so many hypoallergenic dogs, it’s more a question of which breed will best suit you, your family, and your living situation? For many, it is the Toy Poodle.
A Clever Friend
The Toy Poodle is great if you’re looking for a small and athletic dog who is quick on their feet while maintain a certain grace and dignity; like many poodles, the Toy Poodle qualifies! They are an energetic breed that is always eager to play, with an intelligence that allows them to pay attention to you and your training directives in ways that many breeds can’t. They are so empathetic that they are considered to be skilled in reading your body language, expression, and tone, such that they can seem to almost know what you’re thinking. This intelligence lends itself to quick and easy training and housebreaking, as well as to great sociability.
Helping Your Dog to Fit In
But, as with any breed, the Toy Poodle has its own complexities, complications, and behaviors that you need to keep in mind if your intention is to bond and grow with this new member of your family. Some Toy Poodles can be prone to being high-strung; you can find many which are not bred in this way, but finding a Toy Poodle that qualifies as not being high-strung based on its breed is not a 100% guarantee against this behavior. They are often quite timid, especially when not appropriately socialized, and their sensitivity to your expression and body language leaves them open to increased stress and tension due to your behavior and their environment.
However, if you can help your Toy Poodle overcome their social anxieties, there is no hypoallergenic dog that is more friendly, more intelligent, and a more personable companion than they are!
