The beagle is a very popular breed of dog for its size and its very even temperament. This is a dog that was bred to hunt small game and it uses its nose a lot.  He will adjust to his environment easily, but make sure that you give him enough exercise to keep him fit and happy.

This breed of dog has been described as playful, smart, determined, and as having their own mind.  He can get along with other beagles and other family members.  You will need a well fenced in yard as this dog loves to roam.

This breed can have a lifespan of 12 years to 15 years. An average beagle will be 13 to 16 inches in height, but their weight can vary dramatically.  Beagles can weigh from 17 pounds to 35 pounds.  If your beagle weighs more than 35 pounds, you may want to consider adding more exercise to his day, looking into a diet change for him, or both.

Regular veterinary visits are a must when owing any animal.  Keeping your dog happy and healthy requires that he receive his regular vaccinations.

Your dog’s first series of shots will begin at six weeks of age. When your puppy is 11 or 12 weeks old, he will need a 2^nd DHLPP.  At 15 to 16 weeks old the puppy will need the 3^rd DHLPP.  When the puppy is over 4 months old, he will need his rabies shot and from 7 months to 9 months, he will need to get tested for heartworms and be on a monthly regiment for prevention of heartworms.

When your puppy becomes an adult, he should be on his monthly prevention for heartworms, a yearly DHLPP shot, tested for heartworms on a yearly basis.  He will need a rabies shot every three years after he has received his second one and a yearly Bordetells (bacterial infection or kennel cough prevention) shot.
