Goldendoodles make great pets for alergy sufferers
A Golden doodle is a popular crossbreed between a Golden retriever and a poodle.
Golden doodles are often good pets for people who have allergies, because many have inherited non-shedding characteristics from their poodle parent. People who love dogs, but have difficult because of allergies with the dandruff that dogs release when they shed are one reason why this breed has soared in popularity over the last few years. The fact that many of these does do not shed and release dandruff is why they are considered hypo allergenic.
These dogs are actually a crossbreed and are the offspring of one poodle parent and one Golden retriever parent. Because they are a crossbreed they do not always share the same characteristics as their Golden doodle siblings. These dogs are recently created bread, having being created by breeders in the early 1990’s who were attempting to create guide dogs for blind people with allergies. As such, they were mostly a success, but are also very popular with families where one or members has allergies severe enough that having a dog would otherwise be impossible.
Because they are a cross breed, the Golden doodle is not recognized by any major breeding society as a true pure breed. This means it is impossible to get a certified Golden doodle. However, some smaller dog kennels, including ,the Continental Kennel Club, will allow Golden doodles to compete as long as the parents were certified pure breeds. Because they are a cress-breed characteristics of these dogs can very from one to another. For example not all are hypoallergenic. Other differences include variations in temperament and size.
The golden doodle tends to be a rather healthy dog, but poodles and golden retrievers are both susceptible to hip dysplasia. Breeders usually check for this before breeding so as not to pass it on to the golden doodle offspring. Other common potential health problems include a few common eye disorders. Because their ears do not hang down and drain, they frequently suffer from ear infections and yeast infections in the ear. All of these problems are easily treatable.
Overall the golden doodle is a friendly dog with a good temperament that is easily trainable and is usually hypoallergenic.
